Nepal has introduced significant changes w regulations governing freight forwarding. The new regulations include fee increases, compulsory guides and new procedures relating to safety i certificate of summit achievement. The changes have come into force 3 February 2025, and most of them will be be in force from the autumn season.

Key changes to the climbing regulations in Nepal for 2025
1. How much does it cost to climb Everest? New rates for 2025
Costs of climbing permits have risen, particularly in Mount Everest, where fee for foreign nationals is now 15,000 USD. The costs of permits have also risen on other peaks, particularly in the spring season. Costs have also risen permits for trekking peaks.
This is one of the most important changes affecting delivery costs i availability Everest climbs for international mountaineers.
2. A mandatory guide for 8,000-metre peaks – a new safety rule
A requirement to employ a guide has been introduced or Sherpas for each pair of climbers on peaks over 8,000 metres. In the lower mountains that’s enough one guide for the whole expedition.
This change significantly will affect delivery costs on eight-thousanders, but its aim is improved safety on the world’s highest peaks.
3. New rules for summit certification
To reach the summit it was officially recognised, the following are required:
Document confirming the legality of the consignment
A photograph of a climber at the summit z a panoramic view of the mountains in the background
Confirmation of reaching the summit from members of the expedition, Sirdara, guide or a worker at height
If the expedition leader fails to provide these documents, Confirmation may be given by High-altitude sirdar in collaboration with liaison officer.
4. Longer expedition times to peaks below 7,000 metres
Duration of the expedition on peaks under 7,000 metres was elongated z 45 to 55 days. This more time on acclimatisation i safe climbing.
5. Higher insurance cover for guides and Sherpas
New regulations increased insurance sums for people working at great heights:
Expedition leaders, guides and Sherpas – 2,000,000 NPR
Base camp staff – 1,500,000 NPR
Increased insurance cover that is better protection for Nepalese mine workers and their families.
Changes affecting a smaller group of climbers
6. Legal paragliding descents from mountain peaks
Climbers can now legally „to ”come down’ from the mountains on paragliders, provided that obtaining the relevant licence. This new for enthusiasts extreme sports.
7. New procedures in the event of the loss of the expedition leader
If the expedition leader will go missing, will be injured serious injuries, resigns or dies, his duties are taken over by the Chief Sirdar. However, it will not be responsible for the success of the expedition nor will not be granted any additional privileges.
8. New regulations on waste disposal and the „transport” of bodies
High-altitude guides may to climb to the last camp a particular mountain, in order to „transport” the bodies of the deceased climbers or dispose of waste. However, they cannot exceed this level.
9. New requirements for climbing permits
Every application for a licence must include:
The number and weight of the equipment being transported above base camp
The number and layout of the tents w base
Information o any attempts to break records
Map of the expedition area i a copy of the climber’s insurance policy
10. Significant pay rises for dispatch staff
Salaries have been increased for people working on mountaineering expeditions. This will certainly have an impact on delivery charges, because the changes are significant!

These pay rises mean as much as a threefold increase salaries, which will have a significant impact on total delivery costs.
11. Fee increases for Nepalese climbers
The Nepalese, too will pay more for the ascent of Mount Everest – the price of permits rose to 150,000 NPR w the spring season, instead of the previous ones 75,000 NPR.
How will the new regulations affect shipping costs?
New regulations will have direct impact on expedition costs:
- Higher licences – especially Everest (+15,000 USD)
- Compulsory guides on eight-thousanders – additional costs guides
- Pay rises – up to three times higher costs a local band
- Higher levels of cover – additional costs security measures
In total one can expect increase in dispatch costs o 20-40% depending on type of expedition.
