It’s not just a trek – it’s a journey full of adventure and spiritual experiences across the Roof of the World: from the atmospheric streets of Kathmandu, through the sacred mountain Kailash and the lake Manasarovar, all the way to the northern base of Mount Everest and the spiritual heart of Tibet – Lhasa.

Even those first few days in Nepal were a deliberate preparation for the big expedition – a gradual acclimatisation combined with sightseeing Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Nagarkot, from where, weather permitting, you can admire the panoramic view of the Himalayas. This makes the itinerary safe, well-balanced and unique, and each stage takes the participants higher and higher – towards fulfilling their dream of a real adventure in the world’s highest mountains.

  • The sacred Mount Kailash – a three-day trek around a mountain regarded by millions of followers of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Bon as the centre of the universe. The Kailash Kora (max. 5,630 m above sea level) is one of the most mystical experiences in the Himalayas.
  • Lake Manasarovar – the legendary pilgrims’ lake, situated at an altitude of over 4,500 metres. It is a place for contemplation, walks and encountering the spiritual side of Tibet, a place of spiritual meditation and purification.
  • Everest Base Camp (from the Tibetan side) – the northern base camp of the world’s highest mountain, overlooking the majestic north face of Chomolungma. Spending the night at Rongbuk Monastery will allow you to experience the unique atmosphere of the Himalayas.
  • Lhasa – the spiritual capital of Tibet. You’ll visit the monumental The Potala Palace, Tibet’s most important temple Jokhang, as well as monasteries Sera i Drepung, where monks have been studying for centuries.

Detailed programme

  • Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m) – rest.
  • Day 2: Temples and stupas in Kathmandu + Nagarkot (2,300 m)
  • In the afternoon, we’ll travel to picturesque Nagarkot – a famous vantage point overlooking the snow-capped peaks. It is here, amidst the tranquil mountain scenery, that we’ll begin our acclimatisation and preparations for our great adventure.
  • Day 3: Sunrise at Nagarkot, Bhaktapur and Chandragiri Hill (2,550 m)
    We’ll spend the morning admiring the sunrise over the Himalayas in Nagarkot. We will then visit medieval Bhaktapur, and round off the day with a trip up Chandragiri Hill – an important acclimatisation point and one of the best vantage points for viewing the eight-thousanders.
  • Day 4: Drive to Kyirong (2,800 m)
    Early in the morning, we set off towards the Nepal-Tibet border. The road winds through picturesque valleys and mountain hairpin bends until we reach Kyirong – the first Tibetan town on our route. We continue to acclimatise to the altitude at a gentle pace.
  • Day 5: Kyirong – Milarepa’s Cave – Lake Peiku Tso (4,590 m) – return to Kyirong (2,800 m)
    A day full of spiritual and natural experiences. We visit the famous Milarepa Cave – the meditation site of one of Tibet’s greatest masters – and then reach the high-altitude lake of Peiku Tso (4,590 m), offering panoramic views of the eight-thousander Shishapangma. After this acclimatisation hike, we return to Kyirong (2,700 m) for the night.
  • Day 6: Journey to Saga (4,640 m)
    A journey across the vast Tibetan Plateau, amongst endless steppes and snow-capped peaks. In the evening, we arrive in the town of Saga – an important stop in western Tibet, where we will rest and prepare for the next stage of our ascent.
  • Day 7: Saga – Lake Manasarovar (4,590 m)
    We arrive at one of the most mystical places in the whole of Tibet – the turquoise Lake Manasarovar, situated at the foot of the sacred Mount Kailash. It’s time for a walk, to find some peace and quiet, and to contemplate.
  • Day 8: Manasarovar – Darchen (4,670 m)
    Journey to Darchen – a small town at the foot of Mount Kailash, from where pilgrims set off on the sacred Kora route. Here we’ll prepare for the trek: a briefing, some last-minute shopping and a peaceful evening in the shadow of the mountain considered to be the spiritual centre of the world.
  • Day 9: Kailash Kora – Dira Phuk (5,000 m)
    We begin our sacred pilgrimage around Mount Kailash. The trail leads through the Barkha Valley to Dira Phuk Monastery, from where we can admire the mountain’s north face. Overnight stay at the monastery guesthouse.
  • Day 10: Kailash Kora – Dolma La Pass (5,630 m) – Zutul Phuk
    The most challenging day of the trek. A gentle ascent leads to the Dolma La pass – the highest point of the entire trek. On the way, we pass the sacred lake of Gauri Kund, and then descend towards Zutul Phuk Monastery, where we spend the night.
  • Day 11: Kailash Kora – return to Darchen
    We are completing our sacred pilgrimage around Mount Kailash. The final stretch leads through a peaceful valley, amongst prayer flags and mani stones that pilgrims have been leaving here for centuries. It is a day of tranquillity and reflection – after the hardships of the Dolma La pass, every step brings a sense of relief, fulfilment and the spiritual completion of the entire Kora. We stop for the night in Darchen, celebrating the completion of one of the world’s most symbolic pilgrimage routes.
  • Day 12: Darchen – Saga (4,500 m)
    We make our way back across the vast Tibetan wilderness. The route takes us through rugged steppes and mountain valleys, where nature remains untamed. Overnight stay in the village of Saga.
  • Day 13: Saga – Rongbuk – Everest Base Camp (5,150 m)
    Today, one of our greatest travel dreams is coming true – we’re reaching the northern base camp at the foot of Mount Everest. The majesty of the world’s highest mountain towering above us is breathtaking and leaves an unforgettable impression. We’ll spend the evening at Rongbuk Monastery – the highest Buddhist monastery in the world, where the silence of the Himalayas blends with the monks’ prayers.
  • Day 14: Rongbuk – Shigatse (3,900 m)
    We set off for Shigatse – Tibet’s second-largest city. We stop at the magnificent Tashilhunpo Monastery, the seat of the Panchen Lamas. It is a place of immense spiritual significance, full of golden roofs, statues and Buddhist traditions.
  • Day 15: Shigatse – Gyantse – Lhasa (3,650 m)
    A journey through the mountain passes and past the turquoise lakes of Tibet is a real feast for the eyes. Along the way, we’ll visit Gyantse – a town with a rich history and remarkable architecture. On the final leg of the journey, we’ll reach Lhasa, the heart of Tibet. For those interested, there’s a unique option – a ride on the legendary Tibetan Railway, one of the highest-altitude railway lines in the world.
  • Day 16: Lhasa – sightseeing
    We begin our exploration of the spiritual capital of Tibet. We’ll visit the majestic Potala Palace – the former residence of the Dalai Lamas, the Jokhang Temple – the holiest site in Tibetan Buddhism, and Sera Monastery, where the famous philosophical debates between monks still take place to this day.
  • Day 17: Lhasa – sightseeing
    We’ll spend our second day in Lhasa exploring its unique atmosphere. We’ll visit Drepung Monastery – once the largest in the world – take a stroll along the pilgrimage route of Barkhor Street and stop to buy some souvenirs, immersing ourselves in the rhythm of everyday life for the Tibetan people.
  • Day 18: Lhasa – Kathmandu
    Morning flight to Nepal. Upon arrival, there’ll be time to explore Kathmandu and enjoy a farewell dinner together with the rest of the expedition group – the perfect moment to reflect on our experiences on the Roof of the World.
  • Day 19– Back home. Transfer to the airport and departure. With Tibet in our hearts and the Himalayas in our memories, we return home, enriched by unforgettable experiences.
