Expedition to Island and Lobuche Peak: A Challenging Journey to the Himalayas
If you’re a fan of mountain adventures and are looking for a challenge on your first – or subsequent – Himalayan peaks, our expedition to Island Peak i Lobuche Peak is the perfect choice. The itinerary for this expedition has been carefully planned to ensure you not only enjoy unforgettable views, but also achieve the necessary acclimatisation required to climb two trekking peaks in a single trip.
Trekking in Sagarmatha National Park and Summit Climbs
Our trip covers both Island Peak, as well as Lobuche Peak, two popular trekking peaks in the Himalayas. Lobuche Peak, at an altitude of 6,090 m (sometimes quoted as 6,119 m, which is incorrect), is becoming increasingly popular amongst climbers thanks to the breathtaking views from the summit. The expedition also includes a trek in the Gokyo Lakes region and a crossing of the Cho La Pass. After acclimatising in this area, we will visit Everest Base Camp and climb Kalapathar, considered one of the most beautiful vantage points in the Himalayas.
Island Peak, also known as Imja Tse, stands at 6,165 metres. Its name, given in 1953 by a British expedition to Mount Everest, refers to the peak’s appearance, which resembles an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche. Although it was renamed Imja Tse in 1983, Island Peak remains the most commonly used name.
Optimal Acclimatisation and Safety
The expedition programme has been designed to ensure proper acclimatisation and to tailor the route to the participants’ needs. The trekking peaks are not technically very difficult and require basic mountaineering skills; however, good health and excellent physical fitness are essential. Previous experience in high mountains is recommended, e.g. trekking at altitudes above 4,000 metres above sea level.
Our expedition begins with an exciting flight to Lukla, from where, full of energy, we’ll set off on a fascinating mountain adventure that involves climbing both peaks. Once you have reached the summits, you will receive an official certificate confirming your achievements, issued by the Nepalese authorities.
Your Safety Comes First
At Meroway Adventure, we will do our utmost to maximise your chances of reaching the summits. Our team is fully dedicated and committed to ensuring the safety of our participants. Despite our best efforts, we cannot guarantee that you will reach the summit, but your safety is always our top priority.
