The Mera Peak Expedition: Get Ready for a High-Altitude Adventure in the Himalayas
Mera Peak (6,470 m) It is Nepal’s highest trekking peak and one of the best choices for a first six-thousander. Technically accessible, but demanding in terms of altitude. Spectacular, but safe when properly organised.
This is an expedition for ambitious people. For those who want to climb higher than ever before. And to do so wisely.
Why Mera Peak?
Because it’s one of the few mountains where, from a single spot, you can see: Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu and Kangchenjunga. Five eight-thousanders. One panorama and you – at 6,470 metres.
Mera Peak: What to Expect?
Mera Peak is not a technically difficult mountain in mountaineering terms. There are no rock faces or mixed climbing here. The route is mostly a walk, and the final section leads across a glacier. However, the altitude of 6,470 metres changes everything.
At this altitude:
- the oxygen level is approximately 45% lower than at sea level,
- the body is working at the limits of its capacity,
- The pace must be controlled and managed with precision.
The slopes are usually 20–30°, reaching up to 40° in places on the approach to the summit dome. During the summit push, we move in crampons, roped together, under the supervision of high-altitude guides. This is a mountain accessible to well-prepared climbers, but it is still a true expedition-level altitude.
This isn’t just an ordinary trek
Our trip to Mera Peak lasts 19 days and has been designed as a small high-altitude expedition:
- Gradual acclimatisation through the Hinku Valley
- Overnight stay at High Camp at 5,800 m
- Summit push in crampons, roped together
- A 1:2 high-altitude guide during the ascent
The trek takes you through the less-travelled Hinku Valley – a wilder and more authentic route than the classic trek to Everest Base Camp. We gradually gain altitude, spending the nights in lodges, before entering the glacial zone and setting up camp at High Camp at around 5,800 m. We begin the summit push at night, aiming to reach the summit shortly after sunrise.
Driving dynamics – a difference you can really feel at altitude
The following ratio applies when climbing Mera Peak: 1 high-altitude guide for every 2 participants. This means genuine care and control over the pace, rather than merely token support. We operate in small groups of no more than 12 people; we do not organise mass ascents.
High-altitude medicine – what sets us apart
Most offers on the market talk about „safety”; we organise it systematically. Every participant in a 6000+ expedition receives, included in the price, a Telemedical Expedition Package provided in collaboration with Dr Robert Szymczak, a doctor specialising in expeditions to eight-thousanders, and MedEverest.
The price of the trip includes a Telemedicine Travel Package:
- pre-departure medical assessment
- Recommendations for medical examinations and altitude-related preventive care
- access to high-altitude first aid training
- the option of a medical consultation during the expedition
- support on your return
In addition, our guides have undergone professional training in high-altitude medicine organised by a doctor and MedEverest. This is a real advantage and an investment in the safety of the participants on our expeditions.
What Can You Expect on the Mera Peak Expedition?
- Flight to Lukla: Our mountain adventure will begin with an exciting flight to Lukla (2,860 m), surrounded by the magical scenery of the Himalayan massifs. From there, we’ll set off towards Mera Peak, passing through the remote valleys of Hinku and Hongu, which offer a true encounter with unspoilt nature.
- Unspoilt Nature: The trek to Mera Peak, unlike other popular trekking peaks, follows less-travelled trails, allowing you to experience a more natural and unspoilt landscape and to get a closer look at the traditional culture of the local people. Before we set out to conquer the summit, we’ll enjoy a beautiful acclimatisation trek!
- Acclimatisation and Preparation: The ascent of Mera Peak is physically demanding, mainly due to the high altitude. Technically, however, it does not present any major difficulties, so a basic knowledge of mountaineering is sufficient. The gradient rarely exceeds 40 degrees. The expedition has been planned with gradual acclimatisation in mind, to increase your chances of success – that is, reaching the summit safely.
What does a peak attack look like?
- The ascent from Khare to High Camp (5,800 m)
- A night-time start at around 2–3 in the morning
- Climbing in crampons, we’re roped together
- The final few metres are steeper, but there’s no technical climbing involved
- Sunrise over Everest (and many other stunning peaks)

Who is this trip for?
This isn’t just a high-altitude trek. It’s a challenging high-altitude endeavour, but one that’s accessible to anyone who’s well prepared, even without high-altitude experience – although that’s definitely recommended!
This trip is for you if:
- You're in very good shape
- you exercise regularly (you take part in specific, regular physical activity)
- you have trekking experience (ideally at 4,000–5,000 m)
- Do you want to climb your first – or your next – 6,000-metre peak?
You don’t have to be a climber. You don’t need any mountaineering experience. But you do need to be physically and mentally prepared.
What makes our offering stand out?
- Small, intimate groups (max. 12 people)
- 1 high-altitude guide for every 2 participants during the Mera Peak expedition
- All permits and fees included in the price
- Full board included in the price during your mountain adventure
- High-altitude insurance included in the package
- Medical support before, during and after the expedition
- Transparent costs – no „on-the-spot surcharges”

Kathmandu for dessert
During the trip, you’ll also find time to explore Nepal’s extraordinary capital, Kathmandu (for those who wish to). You can visit, amongst other places, the Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the Boudhanath stupa and the central Durbar Square, all of which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You’ll also have a chance to relax in the tourist district of Thamel, where you’ll experience the unique atmosphere of this royal city.
