It\u2019s one of the best things you\u2019ll spend money on during the whole trip and, to be honest\u2026 a must.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where you can save money, and where you shouldn\u2019t<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You can cut:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>flight (flexible dates, advance booking)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>accommodation in cities (basic hostels in Kathmandu from 10\u201320 USD per night)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>food (dal bhat instead of burgers \u2014 tastier and cheaper)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Do not cut here:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>insurance covering helicopter rescue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>shoes (the wrong shoes = blisters = the end of the trek)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a financial buffer \u2014 in the mountains, surprises are always just round the corner<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FAQ<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Is Nepal cheap for a European?<\/strong> Once you\u2019re there \u2014 probably so. The costs of food, accommodation and transport are lower than what we\u2019re used to in Poland. But the flight, equipment and insurance mean that the total budget for the trip can\u2019t be low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Can you pay by card in Nepal?<\/strong> In Kathmandu and Pokhara, yes, although it\u2019s not very common; on the trail, however, you\u2019ll need cash (Nepalese rupees). There are cash machines in the larger towns, but make sure you withdraw enough cash before setting off on the trail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Is it worth taking your wallet with you for unnecessary spending?<\/strong> A cup of tea at sunset, a souvenir for the family, an extra day after a change in the weather \u2014 these things happen. It\u2019s worth having at least 300 USD more than you think you\u2019ll need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>When should I buy tickets?<\/strong> Ideally, 3\u20134 months in advance. During the peak season (March\u2013May and October\u2013November), tickets are more expensive and there\u2019s less flexibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Summary<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A realistic budget for trekking in Nepal isn\u2019t a question of whether you can afford it \u2014 it\u2019s a question of whether you\u2019ve calculated it properly. Most financial surprises stem not from a single large expense, but from several overlooked items all at once: equipment bought in a rush, a lack of a financial buffer, tips forgotten in the budget, or an extra day in Kathmandu due to a delayed flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you plan everything in advance and allow for a margin of 15%, you can travel with peace of mind.
