Dashain \u2013 the most important festival in Nepal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Dashain<\/strong> It is the largest and longest-running festival in Nepal, celebrated mainly by Hindus. It is dedicated to the goddess Durga, who symbolises the victory of good over evil. Dashain lasts for 15 days and is a time for family gatherings, offerings, prayers and blessings. A distinctive feature is the tikka ritual \u2013 the application of a red dot to the forehead, symbolising the blessing of older family members. During this period, Nepalese people build traditional swings, play with their children and enjoy spending time together. However, Tihar has a deeper meaning \u2013 during this festival, both the gods and animals such as ravens, dogs, cows and oxen are honoured, each having their own special days in the festival calendar. The final day, Bhai Tika, is a special time when sisters pray for the health and long life of their brothers. Homes are decorated with colourful lights and rangoli (traditional patterns made from coloured powders), and in the evenings the streets of Nepal are lit up by thousands of lights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. It is a New Year festival during which people visit monasteries, make offerings, and take part in traditional dances and songs.
